Trytomonitortheexitpath,asthebedroomsareusually farthestfromtheexit.Ifmorethanonesleepingareaexists, locateadditionalalarmsineachsleepingarea(Image1A). • Locateadditionalalarmstomonitoranystairwayasstairwaysact likechimneysforsmokeandheat. • Locateatleastonealarmoneveryfloorlevel(Image1B). • LocateanalarmineverySleepingRoom. • Locateanalarmineveryroomwhereelectricalappliancesare operated(i.e.portableheatersorhumidifiers). • Locateanalarmineveryroomwheresomeonesleepswiththe doorclosed.Thecloseddoormaypreventanalarmnotlocated inthatroomfromwakingthesleeper. • Smoke,heat,andcombustionproductsrisetotheceilingand spreadhorizontally.Mountingthesmokealarmontheceilingin thecenteroftheroomplacesitclosesttoallpointsintheroom. 4. Installation / Mounting Instructions Mobile Homes Modernmobilehomeshavebeendesignedtobeenergyefficient.Install smokealarmsasrecommendedinRecommended Locationsand Image2A. Inoldermobilehomesthatarenotwellinsulatedcomparedtopresent standards,extremeheatorcoldcanbetransferredfromtheoutside totheinsidethroughpoorlyinsulatedwallsandroof.Thismaycreate athermalbarrierthatcanpreventthesmokefromreachinganalarm mountedontheceiling.Insuchunits,installthesmokealarmonan insidewallwiththetopedgeofthealarmataminimumof10cm(4”) andamaximumof30.5cm(12”)belowtheceiling(Image2A). Ifyouarenotsureabouttheinsulationinyourmobilehome,orifyou noticethattheouterwallsandceilingareeitherhotorcold,installthe alarmonaninsidewall.Forminimumprotection,installatleastone alarmclosetothebedrooms.Foradditionalprotection,seeImage1A. Installation / Mounting Instructions OPTION 2: Mounting on Other Surfaces 1.Chooseamountinglocation(wall orceiling)andusingthemounting plateprovidedasatemplate,mark three-holelocations. 2.Installthethreeprovidedscrews throughthemountingplateand tighten.DONOTover-tighten screws.(Ifmountinginplasterboard orsimilarsurface,drill3/16” holesandusetheplasticanchors Mounting Option 2 provided.)Anchorsarenotrequired formountingonhardsurfacessuch aswood. Attaching And Activating The Alarm Thismodelisequippedwithafeaturethatautomaticallyactivatesthe alarmwhenthealarmisattachedtothemountingplateforthefirst time.Onceactivated,thebatterywillsupplypowertothealarmforthe lifeofthealarm(10years)undernormalconditions. Alignthealarmwiththemountingplateandrotateclockwise(right) approximately45°untiltheunitstopsandclicksintoplace.DONOT over-tighten.Ifunitneedstobere-aligned,rotatethealarmcounter clockwise,removeandrotatetodesiredalignment.NOTE:Thealarmwill mounttotheplateinthree (3)positions(every120degrees).

5. Operation And Testing OPERATION:Thealarmisoperatingonceitisactivatedandtestingis complete.Whenproductsofcombustionaresensed,orCOisdetected theunitsoundsaloud85dbpulsatingalarmuntiltheairiscleared. Thecarbonmonoxide(CO)alarmmonitorstheairforthepresenceofCO. ItwillalarmwhentherearehighlevelsofCOpresent,andwhenthere arelowlevelsofCOpresentoveralongerperiodoftime.WhenaCO conditionmatcheseitherofthesesituations,thealarmwillsound,andbe accompaniedbytheblinkingredLEDlight. TheCOsensormeetsthealarmresponsetimeasfollows: At70PPM,theunitmustalarmwithin60-240minutes. At150PPM,theunitmustalarmwithin10-50minutes. At400PPM,theunitmustalarmwithin4-15minutes. TESTING:Testyouralarmbypressingthetestbuttonuntiltheunit chirps,thenreleasethetestbutton.Theunitwillthenemit2setsof threeslowbeepsfollowedby2setsoffourquickbeepsindicatingthat thealarmisoperatingnormally.Thealarmwillsoundiftheelectronic circuitry,horn,andbatteryareworking.Ifthealarmdoesnotsound,the unitmustbereplaced. Warning: Due to the loudness (85 decibels) of the alarm, always stand an arm’s length (about 2.5 feet) away from the unit or use ear protection when testing. - Page 15 30 days. Nuisance Alarms ThisSmokealarmisdesignedtominimizenuisancealarms.Cigarette smokewillnotnormallycausetheunittoalarm,unlessthesmokeis blowndirectlyintothealarm.Combustionparticlesfromcookingmay setoffthealarmifitislocatedtooclosetoacookingappliance.Large quantitiesofcombustibleparticlesaregeneratedfromspillsorwhen broiling.Usingthefanonarangehoodwhichventstotheoutside (non-recirculatingtype)willalsohelpremovethesecombustibleproducts fromthekitchen. Ifthealarmdoessoundthesmokealarmpatternof3longbeeps, checkforfiresfirst.Ifafireisdiscovered,getoutandcallthefire department.Ifnofireispresent,checktoseeifoneofthereasonslisted in“LocationstoAvoid”mayhavecausedthealarm. SMART HUSH CONTROL:TheSMARTHUSH controlthatis extremelyusefulinakitchenareaorotherareapronetonuisance alarms.TheSMARTHUSH featurehasthecapabilityoftemporarily desensitizingthealarmcircuitforapproximately10minutes. Thisfeatureistobeusedonlywhenaknownalarmcondition,suchas smokefromcooking,activatesthealarm.Thesmokealarmisdesensi- tizedbypushingtheTest/Hushbuttononthesmokealarmcover.Ifthe smokeisnottoodense,thealarmwillsilenceimmediatelyandthered LEDblinksevery10seconds.Thisindicatesthatthealarmisinatempo- rarilydesensitizedcondition. Thesmokealarmwillautomaticallyresetafterapproximately10minutes andsoundthealarmifparticlesofcombustionarestillpresent. TheSMARTHUSH featurecanbeusedrepeatedlyuntiltheairhas beenclearedoftheconditioncausingthealarm.PushingtheTest/Hush buttononthealarmwillendthetemporarilydesensitizedperiod. Ifthesmokeisnottoodense,aftertenminutesthealarmwillreturnto normaloperation. NOTE: Dense smoke will override the SMART HUSHTM feature and sound a continuous alarm. -

8. Battery BATTERY ACTIVATION AND DEACTIVATION NOTE:OneLithium-Ionbattery,permanentlysealedinsidethealarm, powersthisunit;nobatteryinstallationorreplacementisnecessaryfor thelifeofthealarm. IMPORTANT:Constantexposuretohighorlowhumiditymayreduce batterylife. WARNING! DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OPEN THE ALARM FOR ANY REASON! Donottrytorepairthesmokealarmyourself.Noserviceableparts included. Low battery:Thisalarmisequippedwithalowbatterymonitorcircuit whichwillcausethealarmtoproduceasingle“chirp”approximately every60secondsandblinktheRedLEDevery30seconds,fora minimumofseven(7)daysshouldthebatterybecomelow. THE UNIT MUST BE DEACTIVATED (see “Deactivation of Alarm” section) and replaced within 7 days of the first occurrence of the “Low Battery Warning”... - Page 18 9. Deactivation of Alarm To Deactivate The Alarm: Remove the alarm from the mounting plate by rotating it in the direction indicated by the arrows on the cover of the alarm. On back side of alarm, locate the area on product label. Break through label with a screw driver.

COcanbeproducedwhenburninganyfossilfuel:gasoline,propane, naturalgas,oilandwood.Itcanbeproducedbyanyfuel-burning appliancethatismalfunctioning,improperlyinstalled,ornotventilated correctly,suchas: Possiblesourcesincludefurnaces,gasranges/stoves,gasclothes dryers,waterheaters,portablefuelburningspaceheaters,fireplaces, wood-burningstovesandcertainswimmingpoolheaters.Blocked chimneysorflues,backdraftingandchangesinairpressure,corroded ordisconnectedventpipes,oralooseorcrackedfurnaceexchanger canalsoreleaseCOintoyourbuilding.Vehiclesandothercombustion enginesrunninginanattachedgarageandusingacharcoal/gasgrillor hibachiinanenclosedareaareallpossiblesourcesofCO. ThefollowingconditionscanresultintransientCOsituations: Excessivespillageorreverseventingoffuel-burningappliancescaused byoutdoorambientconditionssuchas:Winddirectionand/orvelocity, includinghighgustsofwind,heavyairintheventpipes(cold/humidair withextendedperiodsbetweencycles),negativepressuredifferential resultingfromtheuseofexhaustfans,simultaneousoperationof severalfuel-burningappliancescompetingforlimitedinternalair,vent pipeconnectionsvibratingloosefromclothesdryers,furnaces,orwater heaters,obstructionsin,orunconventional,ventpipedesignswhich canamplifytheabovesituations,extendedoperationofunventedfuel- burningdevices(range,oven,fireplace,etc.),temperatureinversions whichcantrapexhaustgassesneartheground,caridlinginanopenor closedattachedgarage,ornearahome.

General Carbon Monoxide (CO) Information CO Safety Tips Everyyear,havetheheatingsystem,vents,chimneyandflueinspected andcleanedbyaqualifiedtechnician.Alwaysinstallappliances accordingtomanufacturer’sinstructionsandadheretolocalbuilding codes.Mostappliancesshouldbeinstalledbyprofessionalsand inspectedafterinstallation.Regularlyexamineventsandchimneys forimproperconnections,visiblerust,orstains,andcheckforcracks infurnaceheatexchangers.Verifythatthecolorofflameisblueon pilotlightsandburners.Ayellowororangeflameisasignthatthe fuelisnotburningcompletelyandmaybereleasingCO.Teachall householdmemberswhatthealarmsoundslikeandhowtorespond.Fire Departments,mostutilitycompaniesandHVACcontractorswillperform COinspections,somemaychargeforthisservice.It’sadvisabletoinquire aboutanyapplicablefeespriortohavingtheserviceperformed.Kiddewill notpayfor,orreimbursetheowneroruserofthisproduct,foranyrepair ordispatchcallsrelatedtothealarmsounding. Symptoms of CO Poisoning Initialcarbonmonoxidepoisoningsymptomsaresimilartothefluwith nofeverandcanincludedizziness,severeheadaches,nausea,vomiting anddisorientation.Everyoneissusceptiblebutexpertsagreethatunborn babies,pregnantwomen,seniorcitizensandpeoplewithheartor respiratoryproblemsareespeciallyvulnerable.Ifsymptomsofcarbon monoxidepoisoningareexperiencedseekmedicalattentionimmediately.
